Funny Story

OMG...the funniest thing happened Sunday night at dinner. Wes, Campbell and I went to a late dinner at Mattito's, which by the way is so good! Anyhow, our waiter came to deliver the check and asked if I would like anymore Dr. Pepper. I said, "No thanks."

Okay, side note... you know how at Mexican restaurants they have those guys, who speak very little if any English at all, come around and refill your chips and salsa? Well, one of them came to our table...now remember we have already received our check...and pointed at my empty glass. I handed it to him and said, "Thanks, I'm done." His response, in very broken English, was, "I'm done.?.?" I nodded my head and off he went.

The next thing I know, he comes back to the table with a refilled glass, sets it down at the table and says, "I'm done" very quickly and quietly and then scurries off. I sat there for a minute before I realized that when he came to grab my glass, he was asking what he could refill me with. Because of his lack of English and probably feeling too nervous to ask, he assumed "I'm done" was the name of a drink. All he new was that I had some sort of brown soda. I choked down a couple of drinks (I think he refilled me with Pepsi, which I extremely dislike) because he kept looking over nervously at me to see my reaction. I just wanted to give him a hug. It was very funny...I guess you had to be there!

Emerson is Coming Early!

Okay, so about a week and a half ago I started feeling pressure (painful) down there. I went to the doctor and low and behold I had dilated and she had dropped so low that Dr. Herzog could feel her head during a pelvic exam. I went back to the doctor on Friday and had no change so he sent me home. "See you in a week." he said.

This morning I woke up with the painful pressure and almost in tears thinking about having to endure this pain until the 16th of July, so I became that person I despise (the complainer) and called the nurse. I went in this morning and she had dropped even lower (now resting her sweet little head on the woman bone). No wonder! Dr. Herzog looked into my puppy dog eyes and asked me if it would make me happy if he went ahead and delivered her on the 9th...a week early! My face brightened, the pain let up a little and I shouted "YES!"

Of course the pain is there, but the fact that I can actually say the words..."next week" seems to weaken the intensity of my pain!

Campbell's 3rd Birthday!

Campbell's third birthday has come an gone. Thankfully we woke up this morning and the word birthday has not been mentioned. I have never seen a three year old have such a reaction and show so much excitement about his birthday. It was hilarious and endearing to witness. Some funny things he did and said about his birthday:

1. My friend Megan's birthday is June 18th and we were hanging out with her that day. Megan kept teasing him and saying, "It's my birthday." Campbell, being very confused by this, was like, "No, it's my birthday!" He was kind of bitter about it, too. I guess he is like his mother and thinks the whole month is his birthday.

2. I got so tired of waking up everyday prior to his birthday and having to explain to him that today was not his birthday, that I had to make him a birthday countdown calendar. Every morning we got up, the first thing we did was put and X on the calendar and then count the days until his birthday. It helped, but the full understanding of only having a ONE birthday ONE day a year is still foreign to him.

3. The day before his birthday, he kept opening the refrigerator to look at his cake (maybe making sure it was still there).

4. The night before, he went to the refrigerator and told his birthday cake goodnight.

5. I awoke on Friday morning, Campbell in my face, to the words, "It's my birthday!" (In kind of a sing-songy tune).

6. Finally, the last one and the one I find most comical. Yesterday (after his birthday party) on our way to lunch with friends I asked Campbell if he enjoyed his birthday party and all his wonderful presents he received. His response, "No, it's not finished!" Clearly...my child!

All in all, the party was great! Small is definitely the way to go. I had 5 friends to entertain me and he had 4 friends to entertain him. We did it in the morning while it was still cool and I served juice, donuts, kolaches, and fruit! I would like to send a personal thank you to Megan, who came over at 7:30 in the morning to watch Campbell and set up the party. I had an unscheduled doctor's appointment at 9:00. The party started at 10:00, and yes...I was 15 minutes late to my own son's party! I couldn't have done it without Meg...or Magan as Campbell calls her! The Moncrief family ended Campbell's special day by taking him to dinner and then to Putt Putt Golf. He had a blast. He got a par and get this...no lie...a HOLE IN ONE! It was a VERY long day, but a fun one! I loved the smile on my son's face all day long!

Just a last minute thought...This year, I was able to have Campbell's birthday party on his actual birthday. What is going to happen when his party doesn't fall on his actual birthday. Oh well, I guess I will worry about that later!
